Handiwork for Garage Door Services

Handiwork helps garage door businesses quote repairs and installs on site, book same-day calls next to routine work already on the books, and dispatch each one to whichever tech has room in their day — then collect payment before they've left the property. Job history and notes travel with the address, from a torsion-versus-extension spring call to whether that opener's already had a motor swapped — not locked away in one tech's head.

Sound Familiar?

These are the problems we hear from garage door services every day.

Same-day repair calls — broken springs, dead openers, doors stuck off track — that have to get wedged into a schedule kept on a whiteboard or in your head

Quoting a spring, opener, or panel replacement on site with no consistent format, so the number depends on who's writing it down that day

Collecting payment after you've already left for the next call, with invoices that catch up to you days later

No easy way to tell if last time's fix was a temporary patch or the full repair, so a callback becomes a guessing game about what's already been tried

Repair calls, new installs, and routine tune-ups all logged the same way, with no way to tell what kind of job actually happened once it's on the books

Dispatching the 2 p.m. emergency means phoning around the crew one at a time to find out whose day actually has room for it

What You Can Use Today

Handiwork's core platform already works for garage door services — these features are live now.

📄
Estimates & Quoting
Price a broken spring, a new opener, or a panel replacement on your phone at the property, and get it in front of the customer before you pack up the truck; once they give you the go-ahead, mark it approved and it's ready to schedule.
📅
Scheduling & Calendar
Book a same-day repair call onto the calendar next to today's installs and tune-ups, dispatch it to whichever tech has room in their day, and reschedule with a drag if a call runs long.
📄
Professional Invoicing
Convert a completed repair or install straight into an itemized invoice
💳
Online Payments
Collect card or ACH payment through Stripe the moment the door's back on its track, and put a credit on file if a part needs to be swapped out again under warranty.
👥
Customer Management
Every property's spring, opener, and panel history stays attached to the account, so you know whether last time was a full replacement or a quick patch before you're back at that door.
📷
Job Photos
Attach photos of a cracked panel, a frayed cable, or a finished install to the job record, useful for the customer, a warranty claim, or your own memory six months later.

On Our Roadmap for Garage Door Services

What we're building next for garage door services.

🔄
Custom Job Types Planned
Spring service, opener installs, and track repairs as their own categories instead of a single catch-all job type, so your schedule and history show what kind of call each one actually was.
📱
Native Mobile App Planned
Standing under a torsion spring with both hands full isn't the moment to fumble with a browser tab; a native app built for that environment is next on our roadmap.

Every Call Is Different, and Most of Them Can’t Wait

A broken torsion spring means a car trapped in the garage until someone gets there today, not next Tuesday. A dead opener means a homeowner standing there trying to lift a couple hundred pounds of steel by hand. Garage door work is rarely something you book two weeks out — it’s mostly same-day and next-day calls landing on top of whatever installs and tune-ups were already on the schedule. Booking and dispatching on the fly is the normal state of the business, not the exception. Handiwork is built to hold both at once: the calls that can’t wait, and the work you already had planned.

A Quote That Doesn’t Change Depending on Who Wrote It

Spring replacements, new openers, dented panels, doors off their track — pricing them well on site, in front of the customer, is half the job. Handiwork lets you build an itemized estimate on your phone at the property, and the customer can pull it up right there on their own phone to look it over before you leave. Once they give you the yes, you mark it approved on the spot — that locks the job in, what you quoted becomes the scheduled job automatically, and it’s what shows up on the invoice once the work is done, with nothing to re-key a second time.

Booking and Dispatching a Call That Just Came In

A same-day repair has to fit somewhere, and it usually means bumping something else to do it. The drag-and-drop calendar lets you book that call into an open slot, dispatch it to whichever tech has room in their day, and move an install or tune-up to make room without losing track of either one. There’s no separate dispatch board to keep in sync with the schedule — the calendar is both, and everyone on the team is looking at the same one. Automated email reminders still go out for appointments booked further ahead, so the planned work doesn’t get lost while you’re handling what’s urgent.

Worth being straight about what dispatching means here — Handiwork won’t guess which truck is closest or plot a route for you. You know your service area and your crew better than software does. What it takes off your plate is the part that’s genuinely hard to hold in your head at 2 p.m. on a busy Tuesday: whose day has room for one more call, what’s already been promised to whom, and which job can slide an hour without anybody being surprised when it does.

A repair call usually ends with the door working and you standing right there — the worst possible moment to let payment slip to “I’ll send you something later.” Handiwork turns the completed job into an itemized invoice and emails a payment link the customer can open right there on their phone — card or ACH through Stripe, paid on the spot instead of catching up with you days later. If a part needs to come back under warranty, a credit note squares it away without turning the fix into a separate conversation about the money.

A Door Doesn’t Forget What’s Been Done to It

Whether last time was a full spring replacement or just one side, or whether the opener’s already had a motor swapped — that’s easy to lose track of between visits. Handiwork attaches that record directly to the property — every past estimate, invoice, and note — so six months later you’re picking up where the last visit left off instead of guessing at what’s already been tried. Snap a photo of a cracked panel or a frayed cable before you replace it, and it stays attached to that job for good — useful for the customer, for a warranty claim, or for whichever technician shows up at that address next time.

Job Categories and a Dedicated App — Still Ahead

A spring service call, an opener install, and a track repair all land in Handiwork as the same catch-all job today — breaking them into their own categories is on our roadmap. A dedicated field app is too; until it ships, Handiwork runs as a full site in your phone’s browser rather than something you’d download. Neither has a ship date, but the estimate-to-payment workflow already matches how a garage door business actually runs — one call, one door, one job at a time.

Getting set up costs nothing, whether the first job you run through Handiwork is a quick spring fix or a full opener install. The fee is small, capped every month, and it only applies to the payments you actually process — nothing charged in a slow month, and no contract to sign to find that out.
