Is Handiwork really free?
Yes. There's no subscription and no setup fee. We charge a 3% platform fee only when you process a payment through Handiwork, capped at $79/month. If you don't process payments in a given month, you pay nothing.
What trades does Handiwork work for?
Handiwork works for service contractors of most kinds: painters, plumbers, HVAC techs, electricians, landscapers, pest control techs, pool service pros, cleaners, roofers and more. If you quote, schedule and invoice one-off jobs, it will likely fit.
Do I need to be tech-savvy to use it?
Not at all. If you can use Google Maps on your phone, you can use Handiwork. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, so there's no app to download and no training course.
How does the 3% compare to what I already pay?
If you accept credit cards through any processor, you're already paying ~2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. Handiwork's 3% platform fee is on top of that, but it replaces a $50-$300/month subscription. For most contractors, the total cost is significantly less than subscription-based software.
When do I get paid?
After a short hold, online payments are paid out to your bank when you request a payout. A payout usually reaches your bank in a few business days. While your account is new, payouts (including your first one) can take longer. Card payments show as Pending in your Handiwork balance right away; bank (ACH) payments show once they clear. The hold gives early refunds and disputes time to show up. New accounts start with a longer hold, and holds can get shorter over time. Cash and check payments you record are already yours, so they're never paid out through Handiwork and carry no fee.
Is there a contract or commitment?
There's no contract, annual commitment or cancellation fee. You can stop using Handiwork at any time. Your data is always yours.
